The Times joins Guardian and raises weekday cover price by 20p

By Dominic Ponsford

The Times increases its weekday cover price by 20p to £1.40 on Monday, the first price rise for the title in two years.

The move comes on the same day that The Guardian rises by 20p to £2 a day during the week.

The Saturday edition of The Times is to remain at £1.50 and The Sunday Times is to stay at £2.50.

The price change will put The Times on a par with the Daily Telegraph. Looking at the other titles in the ‘quality’ market, the FT costs £2.70 and the i costs for 40p.

The Times has been the best performing up market national newspaper print title in recent years in terms of circulation change.

In February it grew up 3.5 per cent year on year to an average of 402,752 sales per day according to ABC (however it was helped by the fact it has doubled its freebie bulk copies compared with a year ago to 44,493).
