The Guardian, like Times and Sun publisher News UK, is offering sixth formers the chance to spend a week of their summer holidays at its offices by taking part in a summer school.
Both courses are still open for applications, so youngsters with literary ambitions should get their covering letters in now.
Whereas the News UK journalism summer school is free (with food and accommodation included), The Guardian creative writing summer school costs £599. So for the latter, a further prerequisite would appear to be having well-off parents who live in London or the home counties.
The News UK course will see 15 students edit and publish their own newspaper. Students spending a week at The Guardian will have the chance to see a short story of up to 1,500 words “showcased” on The Guardian website.
