Eve to spearhead Haymarket drive

Haymarket plans to launch a new stable of women’s interest magazines after winning the race to buy Eve from the BBC.

Eve , the BBC’s flagship women’s title, went on the market last month following Mark Thompson’s shake-up of the corporation.

Haymarket
will take over publishing responsibility for the magazine from April
and will make it the founding title in its new women’s interest group.

Eve
was launched in 2001 and has an ABC of more than 150,000. BBC chiefs
said its full publishing staff would move with the title.

Eve publishing director Jo Morrell said she was “delighted” the team would be staying together.

She
added: “Haymarket wants to create a new women’s division and the
success of Eve will only be the beginning of a new publishing force in
the women’s market. “I am thrilled that we will all be a part of making
a reality of that vision.”

Haymarket Group managing director,
Eric Verdon-Roe, said: “This is a significant move for Haymarket and we
are very excited to have the opportunity to acquire such a successful
title with the entire publishing staff on board.

“We aim for Eve
to be the flagship of a new women’s interest group and fully intend to
invest in its continued growth to ensure that it remains the very best
magazine for the definitive woman.”

Eve is the latest in a series
of new investments at the company, following the acquisition of German
horticultural publisher Thalacker Group, and AJB, an Australian
technology publisher, last year.

In October the publisher
launched Rip & Burn , advertised as the music magazine for the
download generation, and this month produced the first issue of
Independent Nurse , for senior nursing staff in the health service.
