Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Daily Star Sunday editor thought to be leaving Express Newspapers as tabloid moves towards seven-day operation

By William Turvill

The editor of the Daily Star Sunday Peter Carbery is believed to be leaving Express Newspapers as the paper moves towards becoming a seven-day operation.

According to well-placed sources, Daily Star editor Dawn Neesom is to edit the title after this weekend's edition.

Carbery was appointed editor of the Daily Star Sunday in September 2013, replacing Gareth Morgan, who was made digital editor across Express Newspapers before leaving last year.

According to his LinkedIn page, Carbery has worked at Express Newspapers since September 2002. He has held the positions of night editor, assistant editor and deputy editor during this time.

According to a source at Express Newspapers, there are around 12 staff currently working on the Star's Sunday title exclusively.

Express Newspapers, which also publishes the Daily and Sunday Express, announced plans in July to its editorial staff count from 650 to 450.

Around 150 staff left the company voluntarily, but 25 staff are now facing compulsory redundancy as part of the cuts.

Express Newspapers declined to comment.
