Trinity Mirror’s Malcolm Coles joins Telegraph as part of new six-strong senior editorial team

Trinity Mirror digital director Malcolm Coles is to join Telegraph Media Group as a replacement for director of visual journalism Ben Clissitt who is moving to Bloomberg. (Stock picture: Reuters)

Coles will take up the position of director of digital media from early next year and will be one of six employees making up the Telegraph’s “the senior editorial team” who will report in to director of content Chris Evans.

The others are:

Robert Winnett, deputy editor and deputy director of content, who will be responsible for news online and in print. “Rob will oversee The Telegraph’s homepage, UK News, World, Politics, Breaking News, Print Production as well as Sport, Comment, Obits, Court & Social & Letters.”

Allister Heath, deputy editor and deputy director of content, who will oversee business, personal finance, technology and property online and in print.

Ian MacGregor, weekend editor, who has been given the additional title of “Director, Leisure”. He will oversee travel, arts and entertainment, cars, food and drink, gardening, interiors, health and well-being and puzzles.

Kate Day, who has been made “Director, Future Media”. The Telegraph said: “Kate will help to shape strategy for digital media for TMG, identifying trends, opportunities and requirements. As part of this expanded role, she will liaise with a range of technology and media companies. Kate also assumes responsibility for devising and implementing all editorial staff digital training.”

The Telegraph also said it would be announcing a new director of lifestyle for magazines, features, fashion, luxury and beauty.

Evans, who is also Daily Telegraph (Monday to Friday) said: “These six people will form the senior editorial team who will oversee our transformation into a digital first media newsroom that also produces a fantastic newspaper. I am delighted that Malcolm is joining our team.

"These key appointments will ensure that our content continues to lead the field; both in paper and online.”
