Fighting for quality news media in the digital age.

Telegraph launches ‘Academy’ for paid internships, apprenticeships and graduate scheme

By William Turvill

Telegraph Media Group has launched an “Academy” offering paid internships, apprenticeships, a tutoring programme and promoting the 2015 editorial graduate scheme.

Last week, Press Gazette revealed that 55 journalists – 10 per cent of the Telegraph’s editorial staff – are set to lose their jobs in the latest round of cuts.

TMG is currently offering a number of editorial internships, in which journalists are paid up to £260 a week, some lasting up to six months.

In addition, the group is offering year-long apprenticeships, which pay £14,000 in addition to training and a National Vocational Qualification.

There are currently 23 jobs advertised for on the Telegraph’s website, four of which are internships, and three of which are apprenticeships.

TMG has also opened its 2015 graduate scheme, which offers a 16-month contract to a “handful of the nation’s best and brightest would-be digital journalists”.

In addition to answering written questions, applicants for all Academy jobs need to submit Youtube videos to TMG.
