A group of former Mansfield Chad newspaper staff have launched a “good news local paper” for the Nottinghamshire town.
The Mansfield, Ashfield and Warsop News Journal is headed up by the Chad’s former managing director Stewart Rickersey along with Tim Morriss, who was deputy editor, former chief photographer Roger Grayson, advertising director Sharon Rickersey and advertising executive Clive Fidler.
According to Holdthefrontpage, the paper – which has a print run of 10,000 – has just had its second edition published. The website reported that the monthly aims to celebrate “unsung heroes” in the area and publish “positive” news.
Stewart Rickersey told Holdthefrontpage the paper, which is distributed to selected homes and is available in supermarkets, leisure centres, shopping centres and through chemist prescription delivery vans, is “not in competition with” the Chad and aims to be “complementary”.
He said the News Journal is printed on 80gsm ultra white paper, saying that this “really makes the paper stand out and separates differentiates the NewsJournal from other free publications”.
According to ABC, the Johnston Press-owned Mansfield Chad recorded an average weekly circulation of 24,323 last year.
