Tory MP ‘clarifies’ Guido porn hack claims after threat of legal action

By Press Gazette

A Tory MP who had been threatened with legal action by political blogging site Guido Fawkes after it claimed she had accused it of being involved in the hacking of her website has clarified her position.

In July, Guido reported that Perry’s website had been targeted by hackers who used it to host pornography. She said on Twitter: “Apologies to anyone affected by the hacking of my website sponsored by Guido Fawkes”.

The MP for Devizes in Wiltshire later tweeted: “That well-known responsible campaigner @guidofawkes has been hosting a link that distributed porn via my website.”

Guido called the allegations “bonkers” and said it had instructed lawyers after offering readers the chance to vote on whether or not to sue Perry.

The site has now reported that Perry has clarified her position, denying that she believed the hacking had been organised by Guido.

She said: “For the purpose of clarity, I have never stated or indeed believe that you organised the hacking and am quite happy to make that view public.”

The tweets, which Guido called “crazy and technologically illiterate” have now been removed. The site claimed this had been done following demand’s from its lawyers to do so.
