ABC figures for the UK regional press show accelerating rates of print circulation decline in the first half of this year.
Daily newspapers lost sales at an average rate of 10.5 per cent and paid-for weeklies (those who were audited this time) averaged a 6.5 per cent decline.
Price rises are largely to blame, as publishers have sought to make up for lost advertising with more circulation revenue, as well as ongoing digital disruption.
All publishers are at least showing strong growth in website traffic.
