Richard Desmond’s Express Newspapers has reportedly announced plans to create 40 online editorial jobs.
According to The Guardian, senior editorial executives were told about the plans yesterday.
The paper reported that there may be some new staff brought in but that the majority of jobs will see print staff moved across to online.
A spokesman for Express Newspapers declined to comment.
Last summer, Northern & Shell announced plans to cut 70 editorial jobs at Express Newspapers, made up of the Daily Express, Sunday Express, Daily Star and Daily Star Sunday.
In October, the National Union of Journalists announced that the threat of compulsory redundancies had been averted after 40 journalists accepted to leave voluntarily.
