Easy Living to move online-only as publisher ‘sees few encouraging signs’ in print market

Condé Nast has suspended print publication of its women’s monthly title Easy Living from July as it goes digital-only.

The publisher has started a consultation process with staff likely to be affected by the move before a final decision is taken on the print title’s future later in the summer.

The title currently employs 30 staff working exclusively on print.

The closure of the print edition comes despite the fact that Easy Living was the only women's monthly to increase sales in the second half of 2012.

“It is a sad decision to have to take, but we see few encouraging signs in this part of the market, with challenges at newsstand and an increasing reliance in the sector on multi-bagged offerings,” said Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of Condé Nast Britain. “Easy Living’s print edition has a significant loyal fan base and subscriber base whom we will be reluctant to disappoint, and a particularly talented editorial and publishing staff.

“However, our digital reach far outweighs that of print, and Easy Living is thriving online.”

The most recent ABC figures show a circulation of 150,854, up 7.1 per cent year-on-year in the second half of 2012. Condé Nast said its Easy Living website grew by 466 per cent year on year in the first quarter of 2013.

The news follows last month’s announcement that Bauer Media was suspending print publication of weekly title More!

Easy Living launched in 2005 with a debut circulation of 170,000 and had a relaunch in print and online at the start of 2012.
