Cannon fodder in a multimedia war?

Chatting to a senior US journalist, he sounded envious when I told him about The Daily Telegraph’s strategy for dealing with the inevitable malcontent from established staff which comes with introducing zippy new digital working practices: ‘They sacked everyone and got a load of eager young journalists in”.

To which he replied: ‘I can see the attraction of that. It reminds of my dad’s stories from the Second World War. They loved fresh new recruits because they didn’t know any different, they could send them into battle – they would draw all the machine gun fire, then the older guys could walk in behind them.
