Tinkling the ivories

By Axegrinder axeblog

I was recently at Foyles, the Tottenham Court Road bookshop, for the launch of The Well-Tempered Clavier, a romantic novel that follows the love affair between a 23-year-old piano teacher and her boy pupil, just 17.

The author is old-Etonian William Coles ‒ former Royal correspondent at The Sun ‒ who tells me that the book is based on a true story, although he is quick to point out that he is not the young lover.

“I should have been so lucky,” he adds.

Coles has already embarked on his second book, Cures for a Mid-Life Crisis.

The idea came to him after he finished walking 54 miles in 24 hours for the Scottish Caledonian Challenge, and it occurred to him how millions of people wake up each morning yearning to stretch themselves, but have no idea where to start.

“They want to be challenged, not just physically but also emotionally and spiritually, and my new book is for anyone who is bored with their life or stuck in a rut, who wants more out of life,” says Coles.
