Readers, especially Telegraph ones, don’t like change, so Axegrinder was sorry to learn that Sunday Telegraph editor Patience Wheatcroft was planning to move gossip column Mandrake from the back page ‒ which has been its home for more than 10 years ‒ to somewhere inside the paper.
I understand Patience was under heavy pressure from the advertising boffins who’d come across all heavy-handed and gave her instructions.
Stand up for your readers, La Patience, I was going to say, and leave Mandrake exactly where it is ‒ it’s happy on the back page and so are its readers.
But as news breaks that Patience has resigned, could it be Mandrake 1 Wheatcroft 0?
