Newsnight anchor Gavin Esler is clearly pretty adept at passing the buck.
On the death of Bernard Manning, the multi-toothed Esler mistakenly referred to the controversial comic as “Bernard Matthews†‒ famed for turkey twizzlers and a recent outbreak of bird flu at his farm.
After a clip of Manning was shown, a sheepish Esler said he had meant “of course†to refer to Manning “not, as the script said, Bernard Matthewsâ€. He then dismissively shoved away the offending piece of paper in apparent disgust.
Surely, Esler isn’t trying to convince viewers that he’s just an “auto-cutie†who reads whatever is placed in front of him?
