Stumped by MEN’s lack of compassion

By Axegrinder axeblog

If the first rule of journalism is to get the facts right, you can’t fault the Manchester Evening News.

But that respected organ could have benefited from a little compassion in its report of an amateur cricketer who collapsed and died this week mid-match.

“Billy Hughes”, writes a reporter, “had opened the batting for Robinsons CC in the first game of the season at Blackley when he slumped to the floor.”

The report then says in the third par, “He had just hit two sixes and was unbeaten on 74 when he collapsed.”

Which I’m sure is of great solace to his grieving wife Susan and two children.
