The BBC has abandoned a two-month inquiry into past sex allegations against the late Jimmy Savile, the Daily Mail reports.
According to the Mail, Newsnight reporters began researching claims the star behaved inappropriately towards teenage girls in the 1970s shortly after his death last October.
The allegations were reportedly investigated by the police in 2007 but dropped due to lack of evidence.
According to the Mail the story could have created an unfortunate clash as it was due to be broadcast before a BBC Christmas Jimmy Savile tribute TV show.
Newsnight told the Mail the story was dropped because evidence could not be substantiated.
