The Spectator appears to be skating on rather thin ice with its front-page headline today promoting coverage of Peter Mandelson’s memoirs: MANDY’S FAIRY TALES.
Mandelson is fairly cagey when it comes to discussing his sexuality, and could well have a justifiable gripe under clause 12 of the Editors’ Code (discrimination). It states:
i) The press must avoid prejudicial or pejorative reference to an individual’s race, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or to any physical or mental illness or disability.
ii) Details of an individual’s race, colour, religion, sexual orientation, physical or mental illness or disability must be avoided unless genuinely relevant to the story.
