A privacy law will teach the press not to enquire

By Dominic wireposts

Ken Macdonald QC makes a strong case against the UK’s developing privacy law writing in The Times today.

He says: “A privacy law does not simply protect the secrets of the rich and famous. It can go much further: it can teach the press not to enquire.”

Macdonald will be speaking at a Times/Matrix Chambers debate tonight in London entitled: “Is the new law of privacy strangling a free press?”. For news from that debate see www.pressgazette.co.uk tomorrow.
