Sunday Telegraph investigations man Gerard Kemp has died

Former chief reporter on the Sunday Telegraph’s “Close Up” investigations team Gerard Kemp has died aged 79.

Kemp began his career as a proofreader on the Walsall Times earning £3 a week – before later joining the Daily Herald.

As a Sunday Telegraph reporter he was in Belfast on Bloody Sunday and was the one reporter allowed on to the platform to cover the 1975 Moorgate tube disaster which killed 43.

The Daily Telegraph obituary today reports that the he left to join the Sunday Express “as the British economy slowed” and the Telegraph “started to grumble about is large Telexing costs and expenses”.
