Arabic rolling news channel Al-Jazeera has claimed an audience boost from its coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict.
According to the Guardian, “anecdotal evidence” suggests the Doha-based channel is beating its rivals Al-Arabiya and BBC Arabic TV, pulling in well in excess of its regular 50m audience.
The channel is showing some particularly graphic images of casualties that the Irish Times says “would never be seen on western TV screens”.
“It’s very dangerous inside Gaza for our people, but they are trying to focus on humanitarian issues,” the channel’s deputy editor Ahmad Jaballah tells the paper.
