Thai business columnist Nongnart Harnavilai has reached an agreement with Tesco Lotus after being sued for libel damages of £1.9 million reports Media Guardian.
In her “Buzz” business gossip column in January Harnavilai remarked that the company did not ‘love’Thailand.
Harnavilai has agreed the wording of a clarification with supermarket giant Tesco Lotus before a judge, which will be published in the newspaper Bangkokbiznews.
The statement will be published on three consecutive days in the Thailand Nation Group owned newspaper, on an inside page, and on the first day it will also be flagged up on the front page.
Tesco Lotus is involved in a second case with the newspaper, against columnists Kamol Kamoltrakul.
Tesco in the UK said in a statement: “We took the action reluctantly, and throughout have made it clear all we wanted was an apology. We continue to engage as the legal process continues. The case is ongoing. It would be inappropriate to comment.”
