BBC defends ‘lavish’ meal for on-screen talent

By paulmcnally

The BBC spent £2,788 on a “lavish, taxpayer-funded dinner” for its TV talent at a London restaurant last month, the Daily Telegraph has learned.

According to the paper’s Mandrake column, the meal took place in the same week that the BBC Trust found the corporation was not paying over the odds for high-profile presenters.

A BBC spokeswoman said: “The meal is a thank you to those who have helped make successful and award-winning shows.”
