The five largest of the Teesside Evening Gazette’s 20 hyperlocal websites have five-figure monthly unique user figures not much smaller than the number of households in the postcode-size areas they serve, the paper’s editor has revealed.
Darren Thwaites said largest of the Gazette Communities sites, which covers Redcar’s TS10 postcode, has 16,366 monthly users in an area that contains 16,396 households.
The Gazette Live site, which is now two years old, has 200,000 unique users and 2.5 million page impressions.
The Gazette Communities project combines editorial content from the Evening Gazette with submissions from 250 bloggers recruited from the local communities they cover.
The community sites are now reverse-published into to hyperlocal print publications and Twaites said the scheme is profitable. It is also being implemented at other Trinity Mirror regional titles.
