Jack White, guitarist and singer with US bandThe Raconteurs, has frustrated music journalists by cutting out all music press pre-publicity for their new album.
Normally music journalists receive advance copies of albums months ahead of their official UK releases, somethingmost of themwould undoubtedly list as a perk of the job.
But White has had enough, as theGuardian Arts blog points out.He says,”We wanted to get this record to fans, the press, radio, etc., all at the EXACT SAME TIME so that no one has an upper hand on anyone else regarding it’s [sic]availability, reception or perception.”
Whethersales of the record will force theband’s record label to re-think its marketing strategyin future remains to be seen.
