The Daily Express was trending on Twitter this morning after it mistakenly ran a picture of the Dutch dressage team on its front page instead of Team GB’s Olympic Gold medallists.
Daily Mirror bosses were also left red-faced when it emerged the paper had made the same mistake – twice.
The Mirror’s gaffe was spotted by bookies Paddy Power, who tweeted: ‘You thought the Daily Express are bad? The mirror has a centre spread with the Dutch dressage team! Ooops”
Another picture of the Dutch dressage team was run on a page 7 side-bar above the headline: ‘Dressage trio make GB history”.
The Express said the mix-up was down to Reuters and Getty Images mis-tagging photos that were sent through yesterday. The error was spotted at around midnight, in time to correct the second edition.
A spokesperson for the Daily Mirror said: “Due to the flurry of Team GB medals yesterday we made an innocent mistake in our first edition which we quickly rectified.”
