Ex-T4 presenter June Sarpong in phone-hacking claim

Television presenter June Sarpong has become the latest celebrity to sue News International over phone-hacking allegations.

Sarpong, 34, has begun a legal battle against News International subsidiary News Group Newspapers (NGN), publisher of the defunct News of the World.

Procedural judge Chief Master Winegarten will handle initial stages of Sarpong’s claim, which is not yet available from the court.

Sarpong, started her media career with Kiss 100, before moving onto to MTV and Channel 4’s Sunday morning programme T4.

She was given an MBE in 2007 for services to broadcasting and charity.

Since the closure of the News of the World, dozens of celebrities and other public figures have filed legal proceedings at London’s High Court against NGN.

Results released by News Corporation last week revealed costs of £39.1m for ongoing investigations linked with the closure of the News of the World in the last quarter – bringing the total to around reached £104m.
