The cream of Britain’s comment journalists gathered at Press Gazette’s Carmelite Street offices for a reception to honour the top 50 comment journalists.
Those attending included Simon Hoggart and Simon Jenkins from The Guardian, Libby Purves from The Times, the New Statesman’s Peter Wilby and guest of honour Matthew Parris.
Parris was presented with the Comment Top 50 pages from last month’s edition of the Press Gazette after he topped of a survey of journalists working in the field of comment and 1,000 members of the public.
Accepting the award, Parris said: “I’m delighted to receive this award and just honoured to be mentioned in the same breath as Simon Jenkins who I think is the UK’s top comment writer.”
Jenkins was voted number two comment journalist in the Press Gazette survey.
