Russell Cook is to leave his post as editor of Archant’s Lowestoft Journal, after seven and a half years on the weekly, to take up the role of head of news on the publisher’s Ipswich Evening Star title.
Cook, who previously worked for the Star as a deputy editor, will replace Jessica Gallagher who is leaving to join Suffolk County Council as head of external media.
Archant has yet to identify his replacement at the Lowestoft Journal.
In his new role he’ll be responsible for print and online news teams for the evening title but will also liaising with the East Anglian Daily Times to co-ordinate the news agenda across the two papers.
Cook said: “I’m looking forward to the new challenge working on a daily title but it will be sad leaving Lowestoft as I have so many fond memories of my time in the hot seat and working with such a great, hard working and talented team.”
Nigel Pickover, Evening Star editor, said: “This is a key autumn signing for both The Evening Star and The East Anglian Daily Times and comes at a crucial time as we embed our new system into the Suffolk editorial operation.”
