Coventry Telegraph deputy editor Charles Barker is the latest senior journalists to leave Trinity Mirror‘s operation in the Midlands.
Barker, who has worked at the Coventry Telegraph for more than 30 years, joins Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson and Birmingham Post editor Marc Reeves who last week announced they would quit their respective papers.
Dyson and Reeves will leave later in the year after helping implement a series of radical changes to Trinity’s operation in the Midlands.
The announcement that Barker, who has been deputy editor since 1999, will also leave follows confirmation last week that Darren Parkin, editor-in-chief of Trinity Mirror’s Coventry weeklies series, was to become the new Coventry Telegraph editor.
Current incumbent Dave Brookes is set to takes over from Dyson as the new editor of the Birmingham Mail and editor-in-chief of all Birmingham titles later in the year.
Barker said: “I’ve had a wonderful time at the Telegraph. It’s been a privilege and honour to work with some terrific journalists over the years.
“Starting as a reporter and working up to be deputy editor has given me memories I’ll treasure forever.
“It will be difficult to leave the paper that I’ve loved, and the people I’ve worked with so closely for so long, but I’m also looking forward to new challenges and opportunities.”
