The family of Jade Goody has won £35,000 in damages from Mirror Group Newspapers and photographic agency Newspics after the People published pictures of the former reality TV star’s burial.
The Sunday tabloid published pictures of the burial on its front page and as part of a special pullout on 5 April.
Atkins Thomson, the law firm representing Goody’s family, settled its privacy action against publisher MGN and Newspics in the High Court today.
MGN and Newspics have agreed to pay Jade’s family £35,000 in damages as well as their legal costs.
They have also given undertakings to the family not to publish or disseminate any of the photographs of the burial or any similar photographs in the future.
In addition, MGN has written to the family accepting that members had a reasonable expectation of privacy and apologising for the distress caused.
The settlement was paid to members of Goody’s close family: mother Jackiey Budden, grandparents John and Sylvia Caddock, aunt and uncle Angela and Trevor Cox, and cousins Lee and Danny Andrews, after they brought a joint action in August.
