Arab rolling news broadcaster Al-Jazeera has launched two new Arabic and English-language websites tailored for mobile phone users.
The sites, which launched this week, provide headline news, business reports and sports coverage as text stories and video.
The latest development is part of the channel’s new media intiative, a strategy that aims to make content more accessible to new audiences across various platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iTunes.
Al-Jazeera Network director general Wada Khanfar said: “The launch is an excellent next step in our mission to make our content as accessible to as many people as we can across the globe.
“It will offer an essential portal for people whose only access to news is via their mobile handsets.”
Yesterday, Al-Jazeera English announced a partnership deal with Independent.co.uk that will see short video news bulletins from the Doha-based broadcaster appear on the national newspaper website each day.
