The Wandsworth Borough News in south-west London has published for the final time, its editor confirmed today.
Sean Duggan said the paid-for weekly, a sub-edition of the Surrey Comet, will be incorporated into the Wandsworth Guardian, a weekly that is delivered free and sold in newsagents.
The final edition of the Newsquest title was two weeks ago, shortly before Christmas.
According to ABC, the title’s circulation in the first half of 2008 was 2,984 – part of the Surrey Comet’s total 9,975 circulation.
It is not known if journalists’ jobs will be affected. Surrey Comet group editor Andrew Parkes was unavailable for comment.
Newsquest parent company Gannett reported a 23.6 per cent year-on-year slump in advertising revenues at its UK newspapers in the third quarter of 2008.

At the Northern Echo in Darlington, journalists have voted to stage three days of industrial action this week over management plans to cut 17 journalists’ jobs and close five district offices.
All but a handful of the journalists at Newsquest’s Glasgow titles have been given redundancy notices and told to reapply for jobs in a new merged newsroom.
The result of a ballot for industrial action at the York Press is expected later today.
