The memorial service for campaigning journalist Adrian Sudbury is to be broadcast live from Sheffield Cathedral today.
Sudbury died on 20 August after an 18-month battle against leuekemia. The digital journalist for the Trinity Mirror-owned daily launched a blog, Baldy’s Blog, chronicling his disease and providing a worldwide resource for people affected by the condition.
The blog won a strong of awards nationally and internationally including Press Gazette Regional Press Awards digital journalist of the year. He was too ill to attend the ceremony but delivered a video message which was greeted with a standing ovation.
Subdury devoted his final weeks to a campaign urging the Government to take more action to promote awareness of bone marrow donation in sixth forms. This resulted in victory when the Government revealed that it was writing to every sixth form in the country asking teachers to make use of an online Give and Let Live teaching resource.

The service will feature a pre-prepared message from Sudbury himself, video tributes from the media and colleagues and speeches from his family, friends and Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford.
Sheffield-born actor Sean Bean will also be at the event, reading an extract from the poem On Death by Khalil Gibran
He met the Huddersfield journalist when they were supporting a fundraising appeal at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.
