We’re better than you, but not at spelling

By Press Gazette

I thought you might be interested in the Voice of the Champion column in this week’s Southport Champion.

It was responding to reports in its rival newspaper, the well-established paid-for Southport Visitor, published the previous Friday, and comments on www.southportvisiter.co.uk.

It quoted a Birkdale resident saying she had seen Pierce Brosnan enjoying tea in the village, during the time The Open was being played at nearby Royal Birkdale golf club, while someone else had speculated that Justin Timberlake may be due to visit to catch some of the tournament.

When openly criticising a rival media company though, especially in such a smug and sanctimonious fashion, it’s normally best not to leave yourself open by making unforgivable spelling mistakes such as Pierce Bronson (sic) though…
