Dennis launches digital-only technology magazine

By Press Gazette

Dennis Publishing has announced the first launch from its new product development team – a fortnightly digital-only consumer technology magazine, Gizmo.

The ten-strong NPD team, headed by the managing director of Dennis’s lifestyle division Bruce Sandell, was launched in September 2007 with the promise of a string of new launches in 2008.

Its first launch is a digital-only publication that will be emailed to readers and act as a showcase for consumer technology. Readers will be able to look at products from 360 degree perspective and with zoom and also watch video reviews.

Sandell said: ‘Delivered directly into consumer’s inboxes, Gizmo will create desire for the products featured and will bring a genuinely new format to the category. The brand will be focussed on immediacy, interactivity and innovation.”

Monkey, Dennis digital-only men’s magazine, launched in 2006 and recorded an ABCe 245,564 for the first half of 2007. Ben Raworth, who launched Monkey, is Dennis’ NPD editor in chief, and will also be working across the title with the NPD team.

Editor Ross Burridge, who has worked at Dennis Publishing for five years on a number of titles including PC Pro, said: ‘By bringing products to life directly on the page, you no longer need to trawl the maze of websites and magazines to find out what’s really going on in the world of consumer technology.”

Dennis’ NPD team incorporates Dennis skunk works unit, Project Badger, a dedicated website development team. The Project Bader team has launched six websites in the past year, including Know Your Mobile, which claims 200,000 monthly unique users.
