Italian businessmen Paolo and Guelfo Marcucci are headed for a High Court libel battle with the BBC over a Panorama programme.
The brothers claim that the programme – ‘The Price of Blood’- broadcast in October 2006, was defamatory, and are demanding unlimited damages of more than £300,000. They are also seeking aggravated damages, and an injunction banning repetition of the allegations at the centre of their claim.
The programme examined the career of Tessa Jowell’s estranged husband David Mills, and his alleged links with the Marcucci family of Tuscany, who imported blood for the health market.
