The Press Association has confirmed that the Daily Telegraph’s former political editor George Jones has joined the agency as a special political correspondent.
Jones, who has covered ten general elections and seen off six Prime Ministers, will begin his new role after leaving the Telegraph on 31 October.
PA multimedia editor John Angeli said: ‘We are delighted that George will be bringing his experience and contacts to our multimedia operation.
‘The next few years in politics will be fascinating and having George on board to help us tell that story to audiences online will be a huge advantage.”
Jones said: ‘Throughout more than 30 years covering parliament and politics the PA news wire has provided much of the basic information and quotes on which my reports have been based.
‘It has been completely reliable, impartial and often first with the news and I am delighted to be joining its Westminster team. I look forward to helping reinforce PA’s position as a serious and growing player in multimedia and political news reporting.”
Jones began political reporting in 1969 and has been political editor and correspondent for The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times and The Sunday Telegraph..
