New Irish daily to launch video and podcasts

By Press Gazette

Irish language daily newspaper La is relaunching today as La Nua and claims it will be the first Irish newspaper to offer podcasts and YouTube.

La Nua, is backed by governments north and south of the border and will be produced in Belfast. La Nua replaces La, which was first published in 1984.

Fifty per cent of Lá's shares are held by 100 of the top organisations and in Ireland the other 50 per cent by the Andersonstown News Group. Lá Nua managing director Connla Lawlor, 26, will becomes the youngest chief executive of any newspaper in Ireland. The title will be edited by Concubhar Ó Liatháin.

She said: "Lá Nua will appeal to the growing interest in Irish among young people and will offer a compelling internet proposition at nuacht.com with daily podcasts, a downloadable version of the entire paper every day and even video-newsclips."
