Davidson steps in at the Newspaper Society

Newsquest chairman and chief executive Paul Davidson (above) has been named president of the Newspaper Society. He succeeds Sir Nicholas Hewittt, chairman and managing director of the Barnsley Chronicle.

Davidson has been chairman at Newsquest since August 2003 and chief executive since August 2001. Prior to joining Newsquest in 1988, he launched his own sales, training and management consultancy business.

He was appointed to the board in 1994 and became deputy chief executive of Reed Regional Newspapers in 1995 and assumed his previous role of managing director in 1997.

Chairman of North Wales Newspapers Russell Whitehair takes over as vice president.
