Parsons set to take a break

By Press Gazette

Judy Parsons, head of content at the Surrey Herald, is taking a break from journalism.

It
follows a difficult year, in which her son-in-law Alan Skehan,
previously a sub-editor at Press Gazette, died suddenly in April last
year. She said: “I’m not retiring, I love writing and being a reporter.
I am sad to leave the people here, the paper is in my home town and I
am very passionate about it. It’s been a hard year with losing Alan and
I need rest and relaxation with my family.”

Parsons has spent
most of her career at Surrey Herald Newspapers, starting at Chertsey at
17. She met her husband Richard, a former editor-in-chief of the Surrey
Herald and now editorial director at Sportsbeat, while training at
Harlow College. Parsons left journalism for 20 years to have children
and work as a nursery school teacher and returned to become news editor
at the Staines office of SHN.
