Reuters tennis correspondent Ossian Shine has been honoured in the annual US American Tennis Writers Awards.
The London-based reporter won second prize in the match story category for his report on the Pete Sampras clash against Andy Roddick at the US Open in New York last year.
The judges included veteran US sports journalists Cindy Shmerler and Alex McNab. Shmerler said: “This was nicely written. I especially enjoyed the lead about Sampras not passing the torch but instead scorching his young opponent.”
McNab added: “Fine lead, strong atmospherics, wonderful descriptions of the two players and good feel for how Sampras overwhelmed Roddick with serves and volleys.”
