A teenage tearaway who terrorised a Suffolk town has been named and shamed after a successful application by the Bury Free Press to lift reporting restrictions.
Ashton Keeley, 15, carried out a year-long crime spree in Brandon, with 29 offences detailed in court.
Forest Heath District Council succeeded in getting an anti-social behaviour order made on the troublesome youngster – the first applied for by the council – and Free Press deputy news editor Mark Heath then made a bid for the paper to reveal his identity.
Heath said: “The nature of an ASBO makes it very important for papers to name the offender – the public are meant to be protected by these orders and have a right to know on whom they are made.
“Not only did we get a good splash from the case, we also got a great court snatch and, hopefully, the people of Brandon will feel better knowing that the order has been made.”
