Dennis Publishing has bought Evo, the independent car magazine launched by a team of ex-Emap journalists.
Staff at Performance Car, including the new business development manager, set up the title in 1998 after Emap decided to fold the magazine into Car. They were convinced there was room in the market for an independent version of Performance Car.
Evo, aimed at discerning drivers and top-end enthusiasts, is now published in Italy and the Czech Republic as well as the UK.
It recorded a recent ABC increase of 17 per cent to 41,267. And Dennis is hoping the title will complement its existing weekly car magazine Auto Express.
Editorial staff are expected to stay in their offices in Wellingborough, Northants.
Evo’s managing director, Harry Metcalfe, said it was "the next natural step" for the title. "Since launching two years ago we’ve grown incredibly quickly and with the new backing of Dennis we can fast track Evo to its true potential in the market place," he added.
It is Dennis’s fifth acquisition this year, following the takeover of Shape, Men’s Fitness, The Player and Computer & Video Games.
