Trinity Mirror is looking to cut 28 roles as it merges sports and news subbing operations on its national titles.
Some 60 individuals have been told they are at risk of redundancy. Many of the jobs going are understood to be part-time.
A Trinity Mirror spokesperson said: "There will be some redundancies across the production teams in sports and news for our daily and Sunday Mirror/People teams. This is part of our ongoing work to ensure we are operating efficiently and adapting to changing requirements in production."
The move comes amid ongoing cutbacks at the publisher. In August it began consulting on moving 100 production and sport staff who works nights from a four-night week to a nine-night fortnight.
