25. British journalism’s greatest ever scoops: The Tamworth Two (Daily Mail, 1998)

It’s difficult to believe now, but back in 1998 the two pigs which escaped en-route to an abattoir in Wiltshire caused a worldwide media sensation.

They squeezed through a fence, swam the river Avon and thence escaped into nearby gardens.

When they were tracked down it was the Daily Mail which secured their stories and they now live, courtesy of Associated Newspapers, at the Rare Breeds Centre near Ashford, Kent.
