The Sun has launched a major new bid to make money from online with gambling platform Sun Bets.
It follows the scrapping of the paper’s online paywall last year. The other major revenue drivers for the site are: Dream Team (the fantasy football manager game), Bingo and display advertising.
The new site offers betting across a range of sports as well as casino games. It has been launched ahead of the start of the Premier League football season.
Former footballer Ian Wright and racing guru Matt Chapman have been signed up to promote Sun Bets which is said to have the backing of a multi-million pound marketing campaign.
The site has been developed in partnership with Australian gambling specialist Tabcorp.
News UK chief executive Rebekah Brooks said: “This is a hugely significant juncture for News UK and The Sun, marking the start of an era where new brands and revenue generating streams are being created on the back of the strength and much sought-after reach of The Sun.
“Sun Bets is set to be a game-changer in the online betting world and to those asking if it will be a success, the simple answer is you betcha”.
