News on the Move II: Helping journalists make the most of the tablet revolution

By Press Gazette

Press Gazette has teamed up with Google to launch News on the Move II – the UK’s only journalism conference focused purely on making the most of the explosion in tablet computing.

News on the Move II is being held at Google’s quirky central London headquarters at the top of their landmark offices at Central St Giles, off Tottenham Court Road, on 11 April.

While last year’s event focused on smartphones, this year the emphasis switches to iPads and other tablet computers.

With Dixons alone selling around one million tablet computers in the UK last Christmas, the devices are becoming increasingly common in the UK.

Press Gazette editor Dominic Ponsford said: “Since the launch of the iPad in 2010 publishers have grown to realise that the tablet computer represents a fantastic opportunity for journalism.

“And with the price point for tablets coming down all the time, it has never been more important for journalists to make the most of this rapidly growing platform.

“Digital magazines and newspapers on tablets offer a similar level of reader engagement to print and so offer an unrivalled opportunity to sell digital subscriptions and advertising. News on the Move 2 aims to give senior journalists and publishers the information they need to make their content compelling on tablet computers and so find a sustainable future for quality journalism in a digital world.”

Confirmed speakers for News on the Move 2 include:

Launch editor of the world's first iPad 'native' magazine PROJECT – Anthony Noguera

Editor in chief of Computer Weekly – Bryan Glick – talking about how, two years after ditching print, his title now reaches 200,000 subscribers a week with its digital edition

Google head of strategic partnerships for Europe, Middle East and Asia –Luca Forlin
