‘Colin was here’: Sky News Twitter account hacked

By William Turvill

Sky News’s breaking stories Twitter feed was hacked this morning.

One rogue tweet saying "Colin was here", was left on the feed at 11.52am.

It was retweeted more than 7,000 times before being deleted.

Just over an hour later Sky News issued the following statement:

“Earlier today the @skynewsbreak twitter feed was hacked and a single message sent.

“Action was swiftly taken and we are working with Twitter and our in house security to ensure this cannot happen again.”

In the past few months, Twitter accounts belonging to The Guardian, BBC and Associated Press have been hacked by an organisation calling itself the Syrian Electronic Army.
