The Filey Mercury, a weekly paper in North Yorkshire, is set to close and have its news pages amalgamated into the Saturday edition of the Scarborough Evening News.
According to Holdthefrontpage, staff at publisher Yorkshire Regional Newspapers – part of Johnston Press – were told yesterday.
The paper’s one reporter is expected to become part of the Evening News reporting team.
According to the most recently available figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation, the Mercury distributed an average of 2,814 newspapers each week in the six months to the start of January this year.
